The transportation program seeks to ensure continual access to eyecare services regardless of financial ability of the patient. Access to care is often disrupted due to insufficient or lack of insurance, and even if free eyecare is available, these services are not able to be properly utilized.
Children are disproportionately affected because they are too young to be able to access the services on their own, and they often don't understand the need for proper vision. Kids rely on their parents for help, but in lower income areas, their parents can't always provide the help they need due to occupational demands, lack of transportation, and insufficient knowledge of the services available
Ocellus Vision wants to take the parents completely out of the equation. By partnering with co-localized free eyecare clinics and school districts, a closed loop for safe, accessible eyecare can be created. We can achieve this by working with the school's bussing system to transport kids to and from the clinic, and kids can get permission slips signed by the parents the day before. Kids are monitored by school faculty or eye clinic staff the entire time to ensure their safety.
Through this "field-trip" system, children miss minimal amounts of school for countless years of clear vision.
