"My name is Thayjas, and I am a second-year medical student at Drexel University. As a student working towards a career in ophthalmology, I saw a big gap in access and follow-up care for low-income children's vision services. Previous experiences understanding social inequities has taken me around the world, from understanding healthcare access of refugees in Berlin and assessing educational and nutritional access of villagers in Nepal. Many of the challenges and solutions needed there were also very applicable here at home. By serving on other non-profit boards, as the Chair of Health and Wellness at the Rukmini Foundation and as a Director at Durgam Charitable USA, I have gained the expertise necessary to ensure full delivery of Ocellus Vision to children who lack sufficient access to vision services."

“My name is Jamie, and I am a first-year medical student at Thomas Jefferson University. I first became interested in ophthalmology after interning at Children First, a non-profit organization in Philadelphia advocating for children’s health and well-being. During my time here, I had the opportunity to help organize and volunteer in Children First’s annual free vision care event for uninsured and underinsured children. With our volunteer over-the-phone screeners and partnership with ophthalmologists in the city, we were able to screen hundreds of children and get them fitted for free pairs of glasses! Seeing the ability of non-profits to help get children connected to vital resources like vision care has motivated me to continue working in this sector to improve healthcare access for kids!”
"My name is Owen, and I recently finished an AmeriCorps year working with The DREAM Program in Winooski, Vermont. Similarly to Ocellus, the goal there was to offer access to opportunities that families may have otherwise found unaffordable. It was a privilege to see my work go towards something more than profits, and I found it to be one
"My name is Owen, and I recently finished an AmeriCorps year working with The DREAM Program in Winooski, Vermont. Similarly to Ocellus, the goal there was to offer access to opportunities that families may have otherwise found unaffordable. It was a privilege to see my work go towards something more than profits, and I found it to be one of the most gratifying experiences of my life. Along with that familiarity with the non-profit world, I spent my time as an undergraduate studying professional writing and communication at Albright College. The opportunity to combine my formal education with my work experience is something I'm incredibly excited to be able to do. I look forward to working on offering healthcare services to the children in our school districts."
